Bishop Dr Robert Solomon of The Methodist Church in Singapore reported that the MCS is developing itself in the area of religious harmony through the state-sponsored Inter-Racial Confidence Circles and Community Engagement Programmes, particularly in the light of recent challenges such as the escape of Mas Selamat Kastari, leader of the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah from detention in Singapore, as well as the release of the film Fitna the Movie by Dutch politician Geert Wilders which denigrates Islam.
The MCS has also been working on relief efforts in the aftermath of recent natural disasters in Myanmar and Sichuan, China.
