The fruitfulness of this relationship was understood by 19th Century reformers like Wilberforce but too often neglected by the 21st Century Church. ‘Love of neighbour’ requires us to take an interest in reforming the structures of society, not just in alleviating symptoms.
The five-day conference draws from the expertise of Dr Schluter himself, whose vast experience in social reform work at a global scale well equips him to speak on the Biblical foundations for societal transformation. He has and will also speak on the family, and ways to measure a nation’s relational progress.
John Ashcroft, who is currently leading projects on public service reform and relational auditing, is geared toward his talks on welfare, relational dynamics and wellbeing, and Christian social engagement.
The team’s expert in law, Dr Jonathan Burnside, has spoken on the ethical authority of the Biblical social vision, the interpretation of Biblical law, relational justice, and the environment.
Gordon Dalzell, whose concentration is in fostering and developing relationships within church communities, will speak on the role of the Church in social transformation.
On business and financial systems, Dr Paul Mills is more than qualified to lecture on relational finance, relational economy and market-driven globalisation.
Revd Annadorai, who is Senior Pastor of the Lord's Family Church and who is known to his contemporaries as the nation’s prayer warrior ‘carrying the burden of the Lord for Singapore’, said that God is giving the Church in Singapore a seven-year ‘window’ period to prepare to receive His shalom, a Hebrew word which refers to one’s enjoyment of every relationship in the coming Jubilee.
God is ready. Are His people ready?
In attendance for the evening talks and morning workshops were Christians in different professions including those in church leadership, the legal profession and others, and belonging to different age groups.
The chapel where last Tuesday’s evening talk was held rang with the fervent and sincere prayers of God’s people, and not least, those of Revd Annadorai himself.
Beyond a doubt, the Church is ready to walk alongside the Lord to usher in a season of immeasurable blessing come August 2015.
