Over a 3-day Haggai Leadership for Evangelism Seminar held recently, Eugene Guzon, National Director for Philippines Worldwide Church of God (WCG), ignited the spirit for evangelism among a group of 38 military nurses at the V. Luna Medical Center, ahead of their deployment to other military hospitals in Luzon.
Following the leadership principles of Jesus, National Director Eugene facilitated discussions on Biblical Contemporary Models for Evangelism that focuses on motivating, mobilizing and training leaders for evangelism. Besides that, he also gave an overview of the ‘Small Groups’ concept as means of reaching new people with the gospel in a relational and non-threatening environment.
In his sharing, ND Eugene opined that the main objective of nurses is to extend professional care and compassion to wounded soldiers, with the desire for them to get well. He also encouraged them to help the soldiers to live well. However, he commented that it is only possible if these nurses and soldiers live purpose driven lives.
ND Eugene also urged the nurses to become contemporary Nightingales and instruments of God in communicating the good news of salvation through Jesus. With that good news, soldiers or anyone who has embraced and believed this truth need not fear even death, but would live life with such optimism and courage.
Following the success of the seminar, ND Eugene was invited to become a resource speaker for upcoming leadership training modules of the V. Luna Medical Center for Nurse Officers.
As a fruitful partnership develops between Philippines WCG and the hospital, it bodes well not only for medical missions in the future, but also for promoting spiritual maturity and biblical community among the nurses and soldiers in different hospitals throughout the country.
There are about 120,000 active military professionals in the Philippines.
