Even as secular news reports last week confirmed the liberal position of Dr Rowan Williams on homosexuality and marriage, the spiritual leader of the 77 million member Anglican Communion, a prominent church figure discerned an assault on the Singapore Church.
In a letter written to church leaders last week, Moses Tay, the first Archbishop of the Province of the Anglican Church in Southeast Asia, called for the Singapore Church to take a clear stand on the issue and to dissociate from the teaching of the Archbishop of Canterbury so as to avoid giving the impression to other religions and general public that she holds the same views on homosexuality and marriage.
Evangelicals worldwide, including Charles Colson, founder of BreakPoint, a large and prominent U.S.-based prison fellowship ministry, have reason to believe that homosexual lobbyists are carrying on a systematic attack on the Church behind the seemly innocuous front of fighting for individual rights.
Those like Colson have shown that in places where the liberals have been able to successfully penetrate the legal system such as various states in the U.S. they have also used their ‘rights’ under the law to lead vigorous campaigns to impose their beliefs on society and even the Church.
