Chinese Coordination Centre of World Evangelism (CCCOWE) recently released a statement stating the third “World Chinese Base-level Gospel Conference”, held once every four years, has concluded successfully in Hong Kong after a global gathering from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3.

Featuring speakers from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, and North America, messages were shared to around 720 church ministers and believers, who came from 17 different countries and regions.

Before the event took place, typhoon swept through Hong Kong. It was initially feared that the conference may be delayed, but it proceeded as scheduled without any hindrances.

Reflecting on CCCOWE's mission statement, this year's theme "Netweaving, Servicing, Creativity; Igniting, Sending, and Uniting" was fittingly creative. The first three terms describe "Chinese Churches Under One Accord" while the last three terms indicate “World Evangelism till the Lord Returns".

In his opening address, Rev. Morley Lee, secretary general of CCCOWE, expressed the importance of “weaving the net before casting the net”:

"It is important for base-level evangelism teams to network with each other and build a sturdy network," he shared.

Keynote speakers, Rev. Lung Kwong Lo from Hong Kong, Rev. Chung-Chien Shia (James) from Taiwan, minister Esther Lou, director of Chinese Christian Herald Crusade restaurant ministry from the United States and a few others took turns to challenge the participants to minister to base-level people in the society.

It was highlighted that while most churches today place their emphasis towards people in the middle-class and white collar citizens, drug-users, drug addicts, illegal immigrant workers working in harsh conditions, kids on the street forced to commit crimes, prostitutes, immigrants who don’t have the source of help along with peasant workers from China; are often neglected.

During the discussion session about strategies to conduct base-level evangelism, the speakers and participants separated into groups and explored on how they can solidify the discussions into practice.

The next “World Chinese Base-level Gospel Conference" is scheduled to be held in Penang, Malaysia from Oct. 1 to Oct. 5, 2012.
