A prominent mega-church in Singapore kicked off the first of its annual men's conferences last month with hundreds.

Men's Conference 2008: A Band of Brothers, which marks a milestone in the men's ministry started by Hope Church (Singapore), was convened this year to provide an opportunity for men in the church cell groups and units to learn and bond through activities such as team building games and prayer walks, according to the men’s ministry website.

Some 450 men attended the Friday conference, which was “truly an experience for all the men present”, encouraging, inspiring, and challenging them as they spent quality time with God and one another.

The attendants thoroughly enjoyed the conference, with some stating that it was something that they had been waiting for a long time, that it was refreshing, excellent, absolutely fantastic, a much needed wake-up call, and a great experience for all men.

Hope Church’s men’s ministry was started to serve as a platform for men from all church services to build authentic relationships and grow together, taking into account that some cell groups (CGs) are predominantly female.

According to the men’s ministry, having an additional strong network with men in other parts of the church allows them to leverage on each other’s strengths and resources in times of need.

Moreover, the network serves as a supplementary support structure that spans the services and provides male role models for men to inspire one another in serving the church, community, and the nations.

The ministry, with its aspiration to be a resource centre in providing help in men’s discipleship, also contributes to the church’s task of building strong and biblical male disciples.

Comprising a small core team of men with a servant mentality, and on the lookout for more who are willing to serve, the group envisions having a “men’s ministry champion” in each mid size group, with whom the core team will work closely to grow the men’s movement at the ground level.

They rely on volunteer’s help in organising various men’s ministry activities, and serve men from all services, especially those who require fellow men’s support and guidance. The team hopes that older men will act as role models for their younger counterparts and encourage them to serve in advancing God’s Kingdom.

Three main activities conducted by the men’s ministry include: men’s ministry activities such as quarterly mini workshops and annual men’s summits, men’s discipleship sessions such as prayer breakfasts and sports programmes, and support in church and small/mid-size events such as breakout sessions in church camps.
